Frame Work in Littlestown, Pennsylvania
A bent structure is not a cosmetic problem. G&S Bodyworks handles frame and structural auto body repair on both unibody cars and body-on-frame trucks at our Baltimore Pike shop.
Replacement, not persuasion
Plenty of structural damage on modern vehicles is designated replace-only by the manufacturer. High strength and boron steels are heat treated to crumple in a specific pattern, and applying heat to reshape them destroys that behavior. The part looks fine afterward and no longer does its job.
Where a section is designated for replacement, we cut at the factory seam locations, fit the new section, and join it using the method the manufacturer specifies. Where controlled pulling is permitted, we pull and measure rather than pulling until it looks right.
Truck frames
Body-on-frame trucks are a different job from unibody cars. A full-size frame can be tweaked at the rear without any visible sign at the front, and it shows up as a truck that dog tracks down the road or wears the inside edge of one tire. Sections of ladder frame can often be replaced where the surrounding metal is sound.
Symptoms after a hit
Doors that stopped closing cleanly, gaps that no longer match left to right, a steering wheel off center on a straight stretch, or new tire wear after an impact all point at structure. Any collision severe enough to deploy an airbag is worth having the underbody checked even when the panels look survivable.
Why it matters later
Structure that is out of specification changes how the vehicle absorbs a second collision, and it turns up at trade-in when a dealer looks underneath. Our structural work carries the same lifetime warranty on workmanship as everything else that leaves the shop.
